The Jiminy Peak Race Team Needs You!
The Jiminy Peak Race Team has a Parents Association that helps promote and coordinate Parents Volunteerism in support of the Jiminy Peak Race Team.
Ski racing is a unique sport. Although racers are scored on an individual basis, the racers participate in these races as a “team”. As Parents of a team member, one of your responsibilities is to assist in at least one of the Jiminy Peak sponsored races that will be held at Jiminy Peak Ski Area this year. There are a variety of ways you can participate in these events (see reverse side). The Coaches and Race Committee members work very hard to take care of many details that are required before, during and after race day. However, there are many other duties that must be handled by Parent volunteers. This concept should not be unfamiliar to any parent who has a child involved in other sports programs. Whether your child plays soccer, baseball, football, etc., most parents are expected to take a turn running the concession stand, scorekeeping, etc. Well, the same is expected of Parents who have children involved in ski racing. In fact, Parent involvement is critical to safe and successful ski races
Over the last several years, our team has grown. However, many parents still did not volunteer to assist at races. WE NEED AND EXPECT AT LEAST ONE PARENT FROM EACH RACING FAMILY TO VOLUNTEER FOR AT LEAST FOUR (4) HOURS FOR ONE OF THE JIMINY PEAK RACES. IF A FAMILY HAS MULTIPLE RACERS IN DIFFERENT LEAGUES IN THE PROGRAM, THEN A PARENT SHOULD VOLUNTEER FOR THAT MANY RACES.
We understand that there are some parents who work as ski instructors, safety or ski patrol or other positions with Jiminy Peak. Paul Maloney, who oversees all Jiminy Peak operations, has assured us that parents who work at Jiminy Peak will be allowed flexibility to adjust their work schedule in order to meet their obligations to volunteer for a race duty. A tentative schedule of races is enclosed (Interclub schedule will be available by the Orientation Meeting) so adjustment of schedules for all who have work conflicts can be done well in advance.
The Parents Association also plans and coordinates the year-end Award Party. In order to pay for the cost of the Awards Party, the Jiminy Peak Race Team Parents Association collects dues from each racer family of $35.00 per racer to cover some of the expenses of the Awards Party. These expenses include medals, certificates, and Scholar-Athlete awards
