Week 7
Hello Gang,
This season is really flying by. What a great week we just had. This past week we saw many former Jiminy Peak and Tri-State athletes competing in the UCONN USCSA Carnival at Jiminy. We saw a lot of fast skiing from a really strong field. What a blast!! We hope to see some of our Interclubbers and Tri-Staters competing in this event in future years. The second run of the GS on the second day was cancelled due to limited visibility caused by heavily falling SNOW!! While we hated to see the run cancelled, it was great to see the white stuff falling in front of my eyes for the first time since October.
The snowfall was followed by several days of deep cold and intense snowmaking that set the stage for an amazing weekend of training. I was so proud of how hard our young racers trained in the bitter cold, without a single complaint. Truly remarkable, and it showed with many of our kids making huge improvements in a single weekend.
Our J1-2′s and 2nd year J3′s raced at Blandford on Saturday, with many of them scoring points. The Interclub squad had their long-anticipated first race of the year at Blandford on Sunday, and I’m told that there was a lot of fast skiing going on. Congratulations to everybody, and especially to the new racers who have now completed their first race.
Our 3-4-5′s trained hard all weekend and are starting to show real progress. congrats to Trent Pfeiffer, Steve Feathers, Bryce Schuler, Andrew Braverman, and Kristin Vonohlsen, all of whom received invitations to the upcoming prestigious Eastern Regional Series (ERS) at Whiteface.,
Plans for the weekend, subject to change as always, are as follows:
Interclub; Meet in the Canteen area at 9:30 on Saturday and then free ski and do drills. Depending on hill space availability Interclub may do gates or brushes, but we’ll have to wait and see. The 1-2′s and 3-4-5′s will be away racing Sunday so Interclub will be training GS gates on Sunday, most likely on Ace of Spades
J-5′s: a mixture of free skiing, drills, and SL gates on Ace Saturday, with a SL race at Bousquet on Sunday
J3-4′s: SL gates and drills on Ace Saturday and a SL race at Bousquet on Sunday
J1-2′s: SL training on Exhibition on Saturday, Berkshire East SL race on Sunday
All training this weekend will be at the regular time, 9:30 am.
I’ll see you all soon.
Bruce
